The Parish Priest of St Charles Lwanga Catholic church Okpoko Rev Msgr. Theo Odukwe, the vice chairman parish council chief Charles Ezeokafor and the members of CYON in the area had successfully held a cultural fiesta aimed at promoting the lgbo cultural heritage and tradition. The event attracted the member representing Ogbaru constituency in the national assembly Hon. Afam Ogene who donated half a million naira for the upkeep of the parish CYON.
The cultural fiesta which was organized by the parish CYON features award presentation to some deserving members of the parish, fund-raising for the purchase of administrative vehicle and the launching of Almanac. Speaking at the occasion, one of the award recipients, Mr. Chukwuebuka lgwebuike, a.k.a lte advised the youth to live good life and distance themselves from social vices capable of smearing their image.
Mr. lgwebuike who is the president of the youth in Okpoko community thanked the members of the St Lwanga Catholic church CYON for honoring him with the award and pledged not to relent in his efforts aimed at promoting the good conduct among the youth of Okpoko community development union.
Also speaking at the occasion Rev. Fr Joshua Obiekezie reminded the youth of the need to acquire some vocational skills that would enhance their means of livelihood, contending that the white kola jobs are no longer profitable these days. The clergy lamented that the youth are no longer interested in self reliant jobs and wondered why they shunned the call by the member representing Okpoko in the state house of assembly, Hon. Igwe for training of 10 youths in different vocational skills. He still pleaded to the youths to come to him for the vocation of their choice.
Earlier in his speech, the vice chairman parish council Chief Charles Ezeokafor commended the members of the CYON for holding of the cultural fiesta which he noted would enhance igbo tradition and culture. He also appreciated the award of honour given to some deserving members of the parish. Highpoint of the ceremony included the installation of lgwe of the parish in different zones.
