Sequel to the rising cost of living in Nigeria triggered by removal of fuel subsidy, Catholic Women Organization ( CWO) Organizer Holy Cross zone in Dunukofia region of Onitsha Archdiocese, Iyom Mater Mary Onwugbenu last Sunday urged fellow mothers to be more industrious and supportive to their families.
She stated that the current economic situation in the country requires that every mother should engage in a meaningful job or business in order to support their families, emphasizing that the era when some women sit tight at home, doing nothing, hoping and depending entirely on their husbands for family upkeep has gone. While commending some mothers who are committed and industrious, she advised others to follow suit.
According to her, motherhood is a call for a selfless sacrifice and service, adding that mothers should see their positions in the family as call not business contract or a bed of roses.
” In other words, you must learn how to cooperate with your husband in order to give your children top-notch training embedded in sound morals and knowledge of God .We are currently passing through difficult time due to hardship and the ugly situation demands that mothers should shun flamboyant lifestyles and be prudent in spending. Learn how to manage your resources to avoid imminent hunger or financial crisis. Even when you are privileged to be the bread winner in your home, don’t announce it to the world since such disclosure may expose your family to danger.
Every mother must be a prayer warrior in order to navigate the challenges in modern marriages and child upbringing. You as a mother should stand strong in your family , fight any evil challenging your family with prayer and fasting. Stand firm and condemn evil in your family emanating from your husband or children and never compromise in that aspect. In essence, begin to lay a good foundation for your children and live an exemplary life that they may take after you. Be conscious of the fact that your children will do anything they saw you doing and go any place they saw you going. If you don’t go to church often or not active in participating in church activities, your children will easily go astray, embracing paganism practices and engaging in all sorts of unwholesome practices which is responsible for the soaring rate of paganism practices in our society today especially among the youth.
Bring your children closer to God by encouraging them to be part and parcel of the church, through attending block rosary activities, belonging to at least one Pius society in the church such as Sacred heart of Jesus, Blu Army, Charismatic etc where they can grow their faith in God and sustain it and you can be sure that they can never abondone their faith in God throughout their life time.”
