The traditional ruler of Ojoto kingdom in Idemili South Local government council Anambra state on Friday enjoined Nigerian citizens to go back to farming as that is a major solution to the current hardship rocking the masses.
The monarch who made the call while presiding over new yarm festival event staged by his community, stated what that the most important commodity in any country is food adding that a nation that cannot produce enough food for her citizens like Nigeria is already in trouble. He called on fellow citizens not to fold their hands waiting for the government to provide food but to participate in farming to boost food production.
Igwe Mbamalu on the other hand commended his community members who planted and harvested new yams this year, encouraging them to sustain the tempo.
He disclosed that his kingdom is known for love, peace and progress, enjoining his people to sustain that peace and continue to show love to one another. He added that the level of development being witnessed in Ojoto is a collective efforts of community members, charging them to remain more united for greater good of the his kingdom.
The monarch commended Anambra state governor His Excellency Prof Chukwuma Soludo for his efforts in transforming the state, asking God to endow the governor with more wisdom and grace to do the will of the citizenry .
Ifitedunu Monarch HRH Dr Emeka Ilouno and HRH Emeka Onuora of Oraukwu who graced the occasion, extolled Igwe Mbamalu for his sincere efforts in promoting and sustaining Igbo culture, describing new yam festival as a thanksgiving to God of harvest for blessing the efforts of the farmers.
Also Ezemadike Ojoto , Chief Uchenna Ndulue, Chief Dan Okafor, High Chief Gozie Anozie and Hon Prince Chibueze Okoli who spoke to the press poured encomiums on Ojoto monarch for his leadership style that got translated into developmental projects in the community. They also saw the event as a time to show appreciation to God for bountiful harvest.
Chief Mrs Ngozi Anyburu in her contribution expressed joy over the event and congratulated the monarch for his commitment towards the peace and progress of the town.
The president General Akanasato Ojoto Barr Ernest in his remarks expressed satisfaction over new yam celebration. On the other hand, he eulogized the efforts of Anambra state governor in transforming the state, stating that every town in the state has witnessed the positive impact of this administration.
High point of event was the official cutting of new yam by the Monarch as members of different villages took turns to pay homage to the their King.
Featured at the event include cultural dances, masquerade displays and other entertainment packages.
