The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Chief (Sir) Stanley Nkwoka, has joined the rest of the world to appreciate all the humanitarian workers across the globe, especially those working within the Council Area, as they marked the World Humanitarian Day Celebration.
In a statement signed by the Chief Servant of Idemili North Local Government Area and made available to newsmen at the Council Headquarters, Ogidi, Chief Nkwoka stated that he recognized the numerous sacrifices of humanitarian workers who, he said, had sacrificed their own lives to help people affected by global crises.
Speaking on this year’s theme, “#ActForHumanity”, which focuses on the safety and security of aid workers, the Chairman enjoined them to continue to provide those essential services to the needy and society at large.
The TC Chairman said, ‘Humanitarian workers provide life-saving assistance to suffering people all over the world, and many of them work in conflict zones or in areas devastated by natural disasters. The day pays tribute to the thousands of humanitarian workers who gave their lives and suffered injuries in the course of their work.
‘On behalf of the good people of the most populous and densely populated Local Government Area in Anambra State, I congratulate you on your day and urge you all not to relent in your onerous task of making the earth planet a better living place.’
The World Humanitarian Day is celebrated every year on August 19. The day also commemorates the anniversary of the bombing of the United Nations Headquarters in Iraq which killed 22 people, including the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights, Sergio Vieira de Mello.
