Members of the Catholic community of St Anthony’s parish Umudioka, on December, 26th, 2023 rolled out their drums to celebrate their illustrious son His Grace Most Rev Valerian Okeke who clocked 70 years recently.
The spectacular event witnessed the presence of priests, the religious, traditional ruler of the town and other dignitaries who came to cheer the prelate up.
In his Homily during the Holy Mass that kick started the event, the chancellor Very Rev. Fr. Prudentus Aroh enjoined Umudioka people to remain grateful to God for the gift of Archbishop, reminding them the special gift they have in the Archbishop, describing it as a great privilege. He urged them to remain thankful to God.
The chancellor emphasized the need to give thanks to God always and especially at the end of the year in order to appreciate Him for His favours, protection and blessings.
While explaining the power of prayer, he encouraged Christians to pray constantly, assuring that no prayer can go unanswered.
In address at the event, the Catholic community commended the Archbishop for his support to the community, describing him as good Shepherd who directs his flock to the right direction, remarking that the prelate has done much to elevate the people of Umudioka. They also extolled the Archbishop for renovating, upgrading and equipping the Immaculate Heart Hospital and Maternity Umudioka, stating that the development has given the opportunity to access quality health care at affordable price.
The parish priest Rev Fr Lawrence Ezeolisa in his remarks congratulated the Archbishop on his 70th birthday, describing him as dynamic, hardworking and passionate prelate who didn’t only transform the Archdiocese of Onitsha but has greatly contributed to the development of Umudioka community.
The traditional ruler of the town his Royal Highness Igwe Raphael Chukwurah in his contribution described the Archbishop as a prelate endowed with special gifts and wisdom, testifying that he has used same in transforming the church and the society.
Also, a member of the community Barr Emeka C Nwosu who spoke Trinitas felicitated the prelate describing him as an icon and great man of God who is passionate about the welfare of his flock.
