The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Sly Ezeokenwa, has expressed strong confidence that his party will win the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, citing the “outstanding performance” of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration as the party’s major strength.
Speaking in an interview, Ezeokenwa said APGA’s recent victory in the Anambra South senatorial by-election was a sign of the party’s growing popularity and a reflection of public approval of the State government’s performance.
“You don’t need to pull any strings to win an election,” he said. “For us in APGA, the greatest string we are pulling is the performance of this government. In any indices of governance, Prof. Soludo has done exceedingly well. For the first time in our history, Anambra is tilting toward a consensus candidate.”
He described the Soludo administration as “a model of prudent management,” stressing that the government had delivered significant development projects “without borrowing a dime.”
According to him, the August 16 senatorial poll, in which APGA candidate Chief Emma Nwachukwu won overwhelmingly, was evidence of the people’s faith in the party.
“It’s unprecedented for one party to win 99.4 percent of polling units and 117 out of 118 wards,” he said. “That victory was a direct reward for good governance.”
On fears that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu might attempt to influence the governorship election in favour of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ezeokenwa dismissed such concerns.
“President Tinubu is a democrat,” he said. “He will remain neutral. Democracy is about the people’s choice, freely expressed through the ballot. Even as Governor of Lagos, he stood firm against a sitting President, yet the people stood by him. So, I believe he will allow a fair process in Anambra.”
Ezeokenwa commended the conduct of recent elections under the Tinubu administration, saying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies had acted with neutrality and professionalism.
On reports of a rift between Governor Soludo and former Governor Peter Obi, Ezeokenwa downplayed the speculation.
“Not to my knowledge,” he said. “They remain best of friends. Mr. Peter Obi calls Soludo his elder brother. Whatever differences they have are only in their visions for the State, not personal.”
Ezeokenwa concluded that APGA’s confidence ahead of the poll stemmed from its track record, public trust, and the people’s growing satisfaction with Soludo’s leadership.
