There was joy in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Umunnachi, on Sunday, September 6, 2026, as the Archbishop of Onitsha, His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke, paid a pastoral visit to the parish.The visit featured the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation to 265 candidates and the commissioning and blessing of a new grotto, among other activities.In his homily, Archbishop Okeke reminded Christians of their obligation to correct one another in love. “When your neighbor is living in sin or doing the wrong thing, don’t distance yourself. Rather, advise the person to turn away from evil. But you must do it with love. If you fail to correct your neighbor, you will share in the punishment that awaits him. Truth must be spoken in love, and your approach should not be laced with insults or embarrassment,” he said.In an address read by the Parish Secretary, Lady Florence Nwufo, the Catholic community extolled the Archbishop for his visit, describing it as a mission of love. They also commended him for his giant strides in education and youth empowerment.Responding, the Archbishop commended the Parish Priest and parishioners for their efforts in developing the parish, and urged them not to relent.The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Ogbaji, thanked the Local Ordinary for his fatherly love toward the parish. He also appreciated parishioners, especially members of the CMO, CWO, and CYON, for their commitment and support which ensured the success of the event.In their remarks, the Vice Chairman of the Parish Council, Mr. Gregory Agulue (Okunwa); CMO Chairman, Mr. Lawrence Okezie Oguanya; and Sir Augustine Ginigaeme described the visit as spiritual nourishment and encouragement. They also eulogized Fr. Ogbaji as a dynamic and hardworking pastor.Speaking to Trinitas correspondent the parish CWO President, Mrs. Obioma Obalum, expressed joy over the Archbishop’s presence. She urged parishioners to seek the face of Jesus, love one another, and shun gossip. She also commended Fr. Ogbaji for his dedication and tireless efforts in moving the parish forward.
