As the 2024 August meeting gathers momentum, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo, has advised mothers to impart basic life skills to their children to enable them to grow into responsible adults.
Governor Soludo’s wife gave the advice while speaking in a media programme in Awka, recently.
According to the Anambra First Lady, cooking, house cleaning, and a lot of other house chores, were basic life skills every child, irrespective of sex, ought to have.
The First Lady, who was a guest alongside the President, Women’s Ministry, Diocese on the Niger (Anglican Communion), Dr Mrs Elsie Nwokolo; and the Director, CWO, Catholic Diocese of Awka, Lady Sabina Ndigwe, among others, urged mothers in the state to use the opportunity of the 2024 August meeting to discuss the imperative of having their children have those basic life skills.
Noting that house chores were non-gender roles, Soludo’s wife told mothers to allow their children know that cooking and cleaning were basic life skills.
‘We should stop saying that a male doesn’t cook. I want this to be taught in this coming August meeting,’ Mrs Soludo said.
She frowned at a system of fundraising method called ‘Ifiche oche’, (cleaning the seat which entails paying for such) which usually characterizes August meeting.
The First Lady, who argued that the whole essence of August meeting was for women to educate themselves and thank God for His goodness in their families in the past year, recalled that in old days, before a bride joined the husband, she had to undergo training that would help her in marital life.
She opined that August meeting provided an opportunity for young wives in this generation to learn from experts and those who were knowledgeable in marital relationship through seminars organized during the meeting.
Soludo’s wife also advised mothers to show love to their children, adding that such helped to shape their future positively.
