The Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State has lashed out at the Anambra State Government of Gov Chukwuma Soludo, for sealing off the party’s office in Awka, the state capital, without informing the party.
The Secretary of the Labour Party in Anambra State, C.J. Okoli Akirika, said the action was carried out without notice, warning, or any form of engagement with the Labour Party.
He said agents of the Anambra State Government, accompanied by men dressed in military uniform, stormed the Labour Party, Anambra State office, and, ‘In a maniacal, frenzied, and frenetic commando-like operation, chased away the staff and sealed the office.’
Akirika described it as unfortunate, noting that it was bizarre and brazen that the Anambra State Government, which, he said, was fruitlessly seeking to truncate statutorily emplaced procedures to select local government chairmen and councillors in the deviously convoluted LG elections, was now mindlessly resorting to underhand, illegal, and obnoxious intimidation.
While appealing to Labour Party members, supporters, sympathisers, stakeholders, and Anambra people in general, Akirika said the state leadership of Labour Party would, as law-abiding Anambrarians, have recourse to due process to contain and checkmate what he termed an unprovoked and untrammeled illegality.
