St. Charles College Onitsha has once again asserted itself as a bastion of academic excellence, recording its highest-ever performance in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination. The school’s latest feat; a remarkable aggregate score of 342 by its top candidate, Anyalogbu Chukwudalu marks a steady and impressive rise in the institution’s academic trajectory over the past three years.
This achievement did not occur in isolation. In 2024, the school’s highest JAMB score stood at 323, followed by an improved 338 in 2025. The leap to 342 in 2026 reflects not just incremental growth, but a deliberate culture of discipline, mentorship and scholastic rigour that appears to define the institution’s ethos.
According to information made available, the outstanding candidate excelled particularly in key science subjects, recording scores of 96 in Mathematics and Physics, 87 in Chemistry, and 63 in English, culminating in the record-breaking aggregate. Beyond the numbers, however, lies a deeper story; one of structured guidance, institutional consistency, and a learning environment that prioritizes both intellectual and moral formation.
Speaking on the development, the Principal/Manager, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Gabriel Anochilionye, expressed pride in the student’s accomplishment and the collective effort behind it. He noted that such success is a reflection of the school’s commitment to academic excellence and character formation. He also acknowledged the leadership role of the Principal, Rev. Fr Dr Gabriel Anochilionye, under whose administration the institution continues to record notable academic milestones.
Observers within the education sector have pointed to the school’s consistency as a key factor worth noting.
Equally noteworthy is the broader impact of such accomplishments. For students within the institution, it reinforces a culture of healthy competition and aspiration. For parents and guardians, it strengthens confidence in the quality of education being offered. And for the wider community, it stands as a symbol of what focused leadership and disciplined academic structures can yield.
While celebrations are certainly in order, there is also a sense that this milestone is part of a larger journey. As the institution’s motto subtly suggests, excellence is not the destination, but the starting point. With each passing year and each new record, St. Charles College Onitsha appears less like a school chasing success, and more like one setting the pace for others to follow.
If the current trajectory is anything to go by, the question may no longer be whether the school will surpass its latest record, but how soon and by how much.
