The Catholic community of Okeluche-Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area has appealed to the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, to construct the access road popularly known as Vinas Road.
The appeal was made on Sunday, August 30th, 2026, during the pastoral visit of the Archbishop of Onitsha, His Grace Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, to St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, Okeluche-Ogidi.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Chief Barnabas Okonkwo, a landlord and stakeholder in the area, said residents have done their best over the years to make the road motorable.
He stated that community members constructed gutters to control erosion and have been carrying out palliative works on the road, but the level of deterioration has now gone beyond what they can handle.
“During the recent gubernatorial election in the state, we voted massively for Soludo’s re-election because we believe he has the capacity and the goodwill to transform the state,” Chief Okonkwo said.
“We therefore request his intervention in the deplorable state of Vinas Road, since we are facing great challenges plying that road now,” he added.
Chief Okonkwo explained that Vinas Road serves as the major link connecting St. Gabriel Parish, Okeluche-Ogidi, to the expressway, and its poor condition is affecting worshippers, traders, motorists and residents who use the route daily.
He urged the state government to come to the aid of the community by constructing the road to ease transportation and improve the living standard of the people.
