The lawmaker representing Abia South in the national assembly, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has said that Nigeria would have been in a better condition today if Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party in the last election had won.
Abaribe’s remarks was monitored when he appeared on Channels Television during the week.
The lawmaker criticised the current administration under President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of promoting nepotism.
He said, “If Peter Obi had won, you probably would have seen a better Nigeria than what we are seeing today. Number one, he would not be as nepotistic as this government, he won’t, it’s not in him. That is just who we are, we feel for the other people.”
Abaribe condemned Tinubu’s appointment of four ministers from Ogun State, stating that many other states have only one minister.
He noted that nepotism, which he said was evident under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has worsened under Tinubu because past actions went unchallenged.
He said, “Buhari towed the path of nepotism, but it deepened under President Tinubu because Buhari did it and nobody said much except him.”
The lawmaker, however, urged the people of the South-East to focus on self-reliance, calling for efforts to revitalise the region.
