The Chief Shepherd of the Catholic Diocese of Zaria, Most Rev Dr Habila Tyiakonaboi Daboh has expressed hope that Nigeria will bounce back again despite the present day challenges.
Disclosing this in his first Easter Message titled ‘The Resurrection of Jesus: A Foretaste of Hope for a Distressed Nation’ he referenced the Resurrection of Jesus, in commending Nigerians for their resilience and perseverance thus far even as he charged them to work and look forward to a better nation.
He said, “The resurrection of Jesus brings hope and this hope holds particular relevance for Nigeria, urging its people not to succumb to despair but to embrace the transformative power of faith and resilience. Given our national economic and political façade, one cannot but think that we have remained in the woods for too long.
In the face of our political turbulence, economic challenges, and social uncertainties, it is understandable to feel disheartened and weary.”“Yet, let us draw strength from our rich history, where resilience has been our hallmark and perseverance our guiding light. Our nation, with its diverse cultures, vibrant spirit, and unwavering resolve, possesses the capacity to overcome even the most formidable of obstacles.
Let us not be defined by the struggles of today but inspired by the vision of a brighter tomorrow.”“Change may not come overnight, but every small act of courage, and every gesture of kindness, contributes to the gradual transformation of our society. Let every individual get to work against injustice and corruption.
Each of us can effect positive change, for the history has repeatedly shown that the power of an individual, when mobilized for the greater good, is unstoppable.”“Nigerians have a strong gene that propels them against despair. Despite the high poverty rate in Nigeria, Nigerians have shown a remarkable resilience in the face of adversity, embracing a spirit of perseverance and determination.”“With all these hardships that Nigerians are passing through, the message of Easter resounds clearly and assures of a better tomorrow. Christ’s resurrection brought about a new dawn of hope and liberation.
Easter invites us to be positive about the possibility of a better Nigeria even in the face of seemingly insuperable obstacles.”“Easter encourages us to hold fast to hope, trusting in the renewal and the power of unity that leads towards a brighter future. Easter serves as a reminder that the darkest moment can lead to the greatest triumphs. As Nigeria steers its political and economic landscape, Easter beckons its citizens to embody the spirit of renewal reconciliation, and solidarity.
By embracing the message of Easter, Nigerians can strive toward a future characterized by justice, equality, and peace, anchored in the transformative power of love and faith.”“In the darkest of times, let the Easter hope be our guiding star, illuminating the past towards a future where every Nigerian can flourish and thrive. Together, let us march for a brighter, more prosperous tomorrow.”
On the recent publication of the names of terrorism financiers, His Lordship observed that, if hopes are not restored to Nigerians in practical ways, there would be loss of trust in the leaders and in the institutions or systems they represent asserting that a dashed hope can lead to social unrest, protest, or even riots.
Bishop Daboh tasked Nigerian leaders to work hard in ensuring that Nigerians do not hit the base of their patience even as he reminded them that. “Rebuilding trust after it has been shattered is a difficult and often lengthy process.”
