The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has cried out that some indigenes of Nibo Community where about 12 persons were killed last Sunday were suppressing investigation.
The Commissioner who visited the community on Monday for an on-the-sport assessment, said some indigenes were keeping back information that could help the investigation.
He also lamented that relatives of the deceased persons had picked up the bodies of the victims and quickly committed them to the earth in burial, disrupting what would have provided a lead to cracking the identity of those behind the act.
A press release by the spokesperson of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, however said the command would double efforts to unravel the identity of those behind it.
Ikenga in the release said: ‘The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to the ongoing investigation and to arrest the perpetrators of the cult-related killings in Nibo, 20/10/2024.
‘The Command also frowns at the act of some deceased’s relatives to bury evidence, suppress information and disrupt the ongoing investigation.
‘Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, today, 21/10/2024, led police operatives to the scene for on-the-spot assessment and stated that the Command had redoubled its efforts to leave no stone unturned in hunting down the assailants.’
The Command however insisted that only five persons died in the attack, while three others who were seriously injured were currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
