The Justice, Development,Peace/Caritas (JDPC) Archdiocese of Onitsha has revealed that it assisted over 350 households affected by floods in 2022 under it’s Emergency Assistance Programme.
In a statement released at the JDPC office, Archdiocesan Secretariat Onitsha,the beneficiaries were financially empowered to buy food and non food items with N88,708.37 each.
Mr Shadrach Ozoemena a JDPC Programme Officer, revealed to Trinitas that the project improved psycho-social support and relief from the traumatic experience of the flood.
Mr Ozoemena further said the project provided a means for the beneficiaries to purchase drugs and get medical attention.
Most of the beneficiaries he said,used the money to purchase farm inputs such as yam seedlings,fertilizers,grains,pesticides while some used it for their business and as a means of improving their livelihood.
About 350 households were provided with cash for purchasing non food items like water,sanitation and hygiene items among many other welfare items.
