Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has revealed a series of initiatives aimed at supporting residents in the wake of petroleum subsidy removal. Around 59,000 pensioners and public servants across the state will receive an extra N12,000 monthly from September to December 2023. This comes in addition to the 10% salary increase implemented since January 2023 as a response to inflation.
Soludo explained that the measures are a proactive response to the challenges posed by the subsidy removal, acknowledging the nationwide hardships. He indicated that Anambra State will work in tandem with the Federal Government’s palliative agenda, ensuring residents can maximize benefits from federal programs.
The governor also highlighted plans to distribute rice to over 300,000 households across the state and exempted highly vulnerable individuals from taxation/levies. In addition, Soludo mentioned a proposed loan scheme for micro-businesses and partnerships with the federal government to enhance various initiatives, such as cash transfers and soft loans for MSMEs and startups.
Soludo’s statement emphasized the commitment of Anambra’s government to supporting ordinary Nigerians, particularly the vulnerable segments of the population, in the face of economic changes. He expressed intentions to build a more prosperous and livable homeland for all residents.
