The Governor of Anambra State Professor Chukwuma Soludo last Sunday paid an unscheduled visit to the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity,Onitsha where he attended the 91st birthday thanksgiving of a senior Knight of the church and Basilica parishioner,Sir T O Chiegboka.
The officiating priest Rev Fr Emmanuel Megwalu welcomed Gov Soludo to the Basilica and also congratulated the celebrant Sir T O Chiegboka on his 91st birthday.Fr Megwalu said that at 91,God has blessed Sir Chiegboka abundantly and commended him for celebrating in thanksgiving to God.
Delivering his homily,fr Megwalu spoke on the need for the faithful to first seek the food that is everlasting and not to concentrate on the food that cannot lead to eternal life.The food he emphasised,was the spiritual food which enriches the soul through being true disciples of God and observing the commandment of God.
Fr Megwalu acknowledged the hardship on the land and urged the faithful never to lose hope but to remain steadfast in the Lord .
The celebrant Sir T O Chiegboka who was accompanied by few members of his family expressed gratitude to God for the gift of long life.
He commended Gov Soludo for his surprising emergence at mass even as he was not expecting him.
He emphasised that his intention was to celebrate a quiet birthday with members of his family and little children of Block Rosary Crusade and was not expecting Gov Soludo who came from thesame town(Isuofia) with him.
He also thanked members of the Basilica family,the priests and the Archbishop of Onitsha,Most Reverend Valerian Okeke for his exemplary shepherdship and great achievements across the Archdiocese.
Sir Chiegboka later presented gifts to little children of the Block Rosary Crusade who swarmed his GRA residence in their numbers.
