The Parish Priest of Immaculate of Mary Parish Fegge Onitsha, Rev Fr Sampson Ogbuebuna has blamed increase in number of churches on selfishness. He took this stand in the parish on Pentecost Sunday, 19th May 2024.The priest explained that the Holy Spirit came to lead people out of ignorance into the truth.
He cited the disciples as those who changed for good after they encountered the Holy Spirit and called on the faithful to usher the Advocate into their lives.“We celebrating today, the love of God.” The priest intimated. “But many of us think of themselves alone.
That is why we see five, six churches in a street. Many people do not want to serve because they have not seen the Holy Spirit as part of their lives. These are the major causes of confusion in our society today.”“Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit as the Helper.
This means that you need the help of the Holy Spirit in all that you do in this life. There are truths about your life, family and vocation that you do not know. There are many truths about the world and your environment that you do not know. One of these truths is that we do not need much in this world.
You do not need much clothes. It is because we do not know this truth that we worry so much. It is when we know this truth that you will worry no more.”“When the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples, He changed their vision. Their lives changed and they began to live a life of selflessness and unity and no one was in need in the community of believer.
When the Holy Spirit comes into your lives, He will reveal the Truth to you and you will bear fruits of love and charity. You will begin to live a life of forgiveness, self-control and endurance. Your life will change and you will begin to enjoy certain things in your life.”Fr Ogbuebuna lamented that many Christians have relegated the Holy Spirit to speaking in tongues, praying in tongues, establishing ministries, healing, deliverance, maintaining that these gifts alone cannot change the world.
He then called for positive change of lifestyle so that they may influence the world for good.
