Residents of Fegge Onitsha have lauded Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Mr. Monday Ekuase for his significant contributions to improving security in the community, culminating in a recent thank-you visit.
This gesture was in appreciation of his outstanding performance, which has led to a significant reduction in crime within the community.
Led by their councillor, Mr. Chidi Ogbuagu, and Youth President, Mr. Isaac Akou, over 500 residents gathered at the police station to commend the DPO for his hard work and intelligence.
They specifically praised his efforts in promoting community-led policing, which has yielded positive results within just four months of his assumption of office.
They expressed confident in the safety of their community, considering it one of the safest places in Anambra State, if not Nigeria as a whole and they commended the DPO for his efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the area.
The residents dismissed allegations of a surge in crime by a group, describing it as frivolous and false and they pointed out that the claimed incidents, including 27 kidnappings and 50 vehicle snatchings, never occurred in their community or anywhere in Onitsha.
The residents suspect that the group, Onitsha South Local Government Elders Forum (OSEF), may be sponsored by criminals to spread fear and panic.
In his response the DPO commended them for their visit and reiterated his resolve to synergise with them in crime fighting in the area, adding that their hospitality is the best compared to places he has worked .
“Every night I and my men patrol the area to ensure you sleep with your two eyes closed. We have made tremendous progress since I assumed office here and it is with your efforts. We need information to deal decisively with those criminals.
“The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam knows you are assisting us in this journey and I assure you of crime free Christmas and new year celebration,” he noted.
