Catholic fathers have been urged to imitate St. Joseph, their patron saint, by being good to their wives, children, families, and society.
The Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Parish, Alor, Rev. Fr. Patrick Ezeifedi, made the call during activities to mark Fathering Sunday 2026.
According to him, fathers are expected to follow St. Joseph’s example by being humble and showing unconditional love and care to their families. He described St. Joseph as a model for all fathers.
Fr. Ezeifedi also commended the parish’s Catholic Men Organization (CMO) members for their active participation in church activities, describing them as one of the most vibrant CMOs in the Archdiocese.
“I have been to many parishes as parish priest, but I have never encountered CMO members as vibrant as the ones in my current parish. The CMO leadership led by Ichie Law Okpara Okoye is doing marvelously well,” he said.
The Parish CMO Chairman, Ichie Law Okpara Okoye (Ichie Okuo na Alor), in his speech called on fellow fathers to reflect their Christianity wherever they find themselves, stressing that practical Christianity should not be relegated to the background.
“Live out the Christianity in you at all times so that your children will follow in your footsteps,” he said. The chairman also eulogized Fr. Ezeifedi, describing him as a humble, dynamic, ebullient, and hardworking priest who has been transforming the parish since his arrival.
The Parish CMO Secretary, Okakpu Okonkwo Cyprian, and Amb. Obiora Norbert Eze, in their contributions, said the Father’s Day celebration was an opportunity to reflect on fatherhood and to honour fathers as the pillars of various homes. The duo also commended the parish priest for his support to the parish CMO.
Activities lined up for the Fathering Sunday celebration included a football competition, gift presentations, and the honouring of male octogenarians in the parish, among others.
