On the sidelines of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in Auchi, a remarkable story of faith and fashion emerged. Rev. Fr. David Segun Aiyedogbon, affectionately known as ‘Fada Tailor,’ has seamlessly combined his clerical duties with a thriving fashion career, inspiring a new generation of clergy and fashion enthusiasts alike.
Ordained seven years ago, Fr. Aiyedogbon’s journey into fashion began just before his diaconate ordination, driven by a burgeoning passion for sewing and dressmaking. “I discovered my love for sewing during my seminary days,” he recalls. “I created my first alb from my own diaconate ordination alb, and that marked the start of my dual vocation.”
Today, Fr. Aiyedogbon serves as the Director of the Diocese of Auchi Sewing Institute, where he has become a notable figure in the clerical and liturgical fashion industry. His exquisite vestments have garnered significant attention within the clergy, with many priests commissioning him to create bespoke pieces for various liturgical needs. Notably, the vestments worn by bishops at the ongoing CBCN plenary in Auchi were produced by Fr. Aiyedogbon himself.
Fr. Aiyedogbon’s commitment extends beyond personal success; he is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of clerical fashion designers. At the Diocese of Auchi Sewing Institute, he trains young people in the art of creating clerical wear, encouraging them to pursue their passions diligently. “I want to inspire young people to explore their creativity and talents, just as I have done,” he says.
Fr. Aiyedogbon manages his time by focusing on pastoral needs in the mornings and evenings, reserving afternoons for tailoring. “My faith and fashion are intertwined,” he explains. “Both bring me joy and fulfillment, and I’m grateful to be able to balance both passions.”
Fr. Aiyedogbon’s story is a shining example of how one can harmoniously blend personal passion with pastoral responsibilities, contributing positively to both the community and the Church. As he continues to inspire and create, his legacy as a faith-filled fashionista will undoubtedly endure.
