On Tuesday, 19th September, 2023, a resident priest in Immaculate of Mary Parish, Fegge Onitsha, Rev Fr Anthony Igweagu leaned on the day’s Gospel reading from Luke 7:11-17 in which Jesus raised the only son of a widow from the dead in calling on the faithful to remain expectant each time they encounter God in His Word because He is in the business of doing new things.
“Read the Bible with the mentality that something new awaits you.” The priest guided. “If you do so you will discover the new things God has in stock for you. When you ponder over what Jesus has been doing, you will believe that He can do everything. In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus had compassion on a widow and raised her only son from the dead. So, if you have not received the answer to your prayers, never lose hope because God can do all things. He is still at work, keep asking Him in faith.”
Fr Igweagu observed that some people pray that their will be done rather than God’s will and enlightened that God may decide to delay the answers to their prayers so that they may pray enough for their other needs to be addressed. “When you pray, endeavour to pray and accept the will of God because His will is better than ours..” He continued. “If you study the lives of the Saints, you will discover what many of them went through. St Monica prayed for twenty four years so that her son, St Augustine would accept to be baptized. But she continued to pray that her prayers became so much that they enabled him to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation; became a priest; and eventually became a Saint. So, God is All Powerful and He knows how best to answer you.”
