A catholic priest of Onitsha Archdiocese Rev Fr Kingsley Okaro on Sunday, urged Christians to resist their flesh from controlling their spiritual life.
Fr Okaro gave the advice while preaching a Sunday homily.
His words “As Christians, we are called to live a life guided by spiritual principles rather than being controlled by our fleshly desires.”
He reflected on the biblical teachings such as Romans 8:5-8, which says, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For you to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”
Fr Okaro encourages Christians to prioritize their spiritual growth, seek guidance from the Holy Spirit, and cultivate self-discipline to overcome worldly temptations.
According to him, christians should examine their priorities and ensure their spiritual lives aren’t being dictated by fleshly desires.
“As Christians, let us acknowledge the constant battle between the flesh and the Spirit.
Nurture your relationship with God through prayer, scripture, and community.
and seek Holy Spirit guidance. Ask for wisdom and strength to overcome temptations.
Cultivate self-discipline and practice self-control, fasting, and detachment from worldly desires. Focus on eternal life by setting your mind on heavenly things, not earthly pleasures, he counseled.
