The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has warned against activities targeted at destroying quality road maintenance in Anambra State.
The Managing Director, Mr Ossy Onuko, gave the warning while overseeing the level of work going on at Esther Obiakor Avenue, Awka.
He said the road maintenance was motivated by the Governor’s choice in making Awka one of the best state capitals within the country.
He said: ‘The ongoing road maintenance is part of proactive measures in ensuring that the much dilapidated Esther Obiakor Avenue wears a new look, befitting a road network found within a state capital.
‘I insisted on being physically present to ensure the work met the required standards prescribed by Governor Soludo.
‘All efforts are targeted at giving Anambra the best quality of leadership it deserves in all facets of development across all sectors in the state.’
The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, explained that the ongoing road maintenance was part of Governor Soludo’s proactive efforts in preventing further dilapidation.
He praised Soludo for what he described as his higher quality of infrastructural development across the state, just as he thanked the ACTDA boss for his proactive approach, which, he noted, had significantly contributed to the successes recorded in the state capital.
‘I also commend ACTDA for its efforts to address the potholes and upgrade the roads to ensure a smoother drive for the road users within Awka metropolis. I call on Ndí Anambra to support Gov Soludo’s administration beyond 2025,’ he added.
Also speaking, the Deputy Commander of ACTDA Rapid Response, Mr. Henry Uchechukwu Nebolisa, emphasized the need for making the road motorable for the surrounding community.
He noted that good road networks, among other infrastructural development, gave facelifts to the state capital.
Acknowledging the residents’ pleas for road repairs and emphasizing government’s intervention through ACTDA, Nebolisa noted that government property was everybody’s business; just as he urged residents to avoid activities that could damage the road, such as spilling engine oil.
