The Laity Unit of the Pastoral Agents Department at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) has announced the ‘2024 Annual Leadership Retreat,’ scheduled to take place from Thursday, July 11 to Saturday, July 13, 2024. This significant event will be directed by the Emeritus Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, under the theme “The Importance of Lay Apostolate and the Role of a Chaplain.”
Josef Ishu, the Episcopal Secretary for the Laity at the CSN, revealed that the retreat will bring together key leaders from various lay apostolate groups. Attendees will include National Chaplains of Laity, CMON, CWON, Papal Knights, KSM, and KSJI, totaling 101 participants. The group will also comprise National Deputy Chaplains of Laity, Provincial Chaplains of Laity Councils, National Chaplains of other Lay Apostolate Groups, National Sister Advisors of CWON, Christian Mothers, Medical Practitioners, and National Presidents/Secretaries of these organizations.
Most Rev. John Ebebe Ayah, Bishop Chairman for the Laity and Catholic Bishop of Uyo Diocese, will deliver the keynote address. Additionally, Rev. Fr. Augustine Okochi, Director of the Pastoral Agents Department, will address the importance of accountability in leadership.
The retreat aims to highlight the crucial role of the lay apostolate in the Church’s mission and to enhance the support provided by chaplains to these groups. Participants will engage in in-depth discussions, workshops, and spiritual reflections to reinforce their leadership skills and deepen their commitment to their roles within the Church.
This assembly promises to be a transformative experience, fostering greater unity and effectiveness in the apostolate’s mission to serve the broader community.
