The priests of Onitsha Archdiocese experienced a spiritually invigorating and refreshing annual retreat under the guidance of the Most Reverend Peter Nworie Chukwu, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki.
Divided into two sets, the first group of priests began their retreat on Sunday, 9th July 2023, and concluded on Friday, 14th July. The second set of priests commenced their retreat on Sunday, 16th July and wrapped up on Friday, 21st July.
The theme for this enlightening retreat was “Living the Priesthood of Christ as a co-victim.”
Bishop Peter Chukwu left an indelible mark on the hearts of the recipients, providing profound spiritual enrichment throughout the two weeks. Drawing from scriptures, church documents, spiritual and pastoral experiences, he skillfully recharged the priests’ spiritual batteries.
The depth of spirituality and maturity displayed by the priests during the retreat was commendable. Their commitment to silence, meditations, prayers, adorations, rosary, spiritual talks, and private celebrations of the Holy Eucharist exemplified their dedication to their priestly calling.
Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, the Archbishop of Onitsha, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Most Rev. Peter Chukwu for dedicating his time to conduct this edifying retreat for his priests. He offered prayers that Bishop Chukwu continues to be a strong and guiding shepherd for the Church in Abakaliki Diocese.
May the grace and blessings from this retreat empower the priests to serve their communities with renewed zeal and love.
