On Monday, 24 May, 2024, Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, alongside priests, staff, and management of the College of Nursing Sciences, Adazi Nnukwu, welcomed former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s recent presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi. The visit underscored Mr. Obi’s ongoing commitment to investing in critical areas of human development, particularly education and health.
During his visit, Mr. Obi announced a support grant of N10 million to the College of Nursing Sciences, St. Joseph Hospital Adazi-Nnukwu. This investment aims to enhance the training of nurses, a vital contribution given the college’s long-standing history of producing qualified nurses and midwives, which has significantly benefited the health sector.
“The visit and the huge contributions of Mr. Obi to the college and other institutions are indications that only the best is good enough for our children and nation,” remarked Bishop Ezeokafor. He expressed deep gratitude for Mr. Obi’s continued support and dedication to improving educational standards. “I thank Mr. Obi immensely for all that he is doing and I pray God to keep protecting and strengthening him,” he added.
Mr. Obi reiterated his advocacy for substantial investments in education and healthcare. He highlighted the global warning from health organizations about the impending shortage of healthcare workers, particularly nurses. “By investing in their training, we will be able to produce enough to meet our needs and contribute to managing the global shortage,” he said.
He extended his appreciation to the proprietor, management, and staff of the College for their dedication and hard work in contributing to the growth of the health sector. Addressing the student nurses, Mr. Obi emphasized the nobility and fulfillment inherent in the nursing profession and encouraged them to continue working hard as they unite efforts to build a new Nigeria.
