The Chief Shepherd of the Catholic Diocese of Zaria, Most Rev. Dr. Habila Tyiaknoaboi Daboh has reminded Nigerian leaders that leadership entails responsibility and making sacrifices for citizens, rather than a show of power and privilege. He also reminded them of the need to sensitize and encourage voters to participate actively in the forthcoming elections, especially those who attained the voting age of eighteen, after the last elections.
His Lordship who pointed to the lessons of the Resurrection of Christ beckoned on all Nigerians to remain hopeful and stand for truth, peace, justice and for the country. He also called on the faithful to make their homes places of prayers and to live lives that are rooted in love, even in the face of the division and violence.
He said, “To our political leaders, be reminded that Easter carries a profound challenge. Leadership is not about power. It is about responsibility. It is not about privilege, it is about sacrifice. Christ Himself teaches us, “Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant.”
“With electoral activities approaching once again, civic responsibility becomes a critical pillar of democratic consolidation. It is equally important to encourage newly eligible citizens, particularly those who have just attained voting age, to obtain their voter cards. Electoral participation should not be undermined by empathy or skepticism, rather. It must be embraced as both a right and a duty.”
“Let this Easter be a turning point. Let us stand together not as a people defeated, but as a people renewed. Let us stand for truth. Let us stand for justice. Let us stand for peace. Let us stand for Nigeria. Easter invites us not only to celebrate the Resurrection, but to live it, to become signs of hope in our troubles families, our disconnected communities, and our sinking world. We are called to reflect the light of Christ.”
