In a series of clearance operations aimed at restoring peace and security in the South East of Nigeria, troops from the 302 Regiment under the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Anambra Vigilante Group, successfully destroyed camps belonging to suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Oroma and Umuewelum Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area.
The well-executed raid, conducted on July 23, 2023, targeted the illicit activities of the fighters within the communities. As a result of the operation, the troops recovered one AK 47 Rifle, one AKMS Rifle, three Lexus SUVs, and two Motorcycles. Additionally, eight brigands were apprehended during the operation.
In a separate operation at Mmiata Anam in Anambra South, the troops encountered the IPOB group, resulting in the neutralization of one fighter, while another was captured alive. Further searches led to the recovery of one AK 47 Rifle, one dane gun, and police uniforms.
The Nigerian Army urges law-abiding citizens, especially the people of the South East, to continue supporting and cooperating with the troops and other security agencies in their unwavering efforts to bring an end to the prevailing challenges in the region.”
