The Parish of Our Lady Queen of Peace Ahmadu Bello University Zaria Rev Fr Sebastian Vincent has cautioned against judging people by their outward appearance so that they do not make avoidable mistakes. The priest who took this step at the Mass he celebrated in the parish on Tuesday, 16th January 2024 leaned on the first reading on the first anointing of David in telling them that physical appearance can deceive people.
On the other hand, he assured them that their God destined greatness for them will materialize despite people contrary expectations.
He said, “Appearance is not reality. Sometimes we write people off. Sometimes we look at people and put them in a position that is not theirs because of their appearance. In our first reading today, David was destined to be a king. But when Samuel got to the house of Jesse, he saw the first son and said, ‘This must be the king’ – by appearance. David was not even at home. He was in the fields but that position was meant for him. Then when he came back, Samuel led by the spirit said, ‘This is the one.’ That explains why the spirit rushed on him from that that day forward. Friends in the Lord, nobody can stop what God has destined for you. They can only delay it. If God has said it, then it shall come to pass, come rain come sun.”
Fr Vincent nudged them to hang on to the promises of God over their lives because, “That request of yours will come to pass.”
