The  Chief  Executive Officer (CEO)St Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital,  Onitsha Rev Fr. Dr Izunna Okonkwo on Monday commended  the Chief Shepherd of Onitsha Archdiocese His Grace Most Rev Valerian Okeke for delivering and sustaining  quality health care in Onitsha Archdiocese and beyond.

Fr Okonkwo stated that the prelate  is passionate about quality health care delivery and sustaining the tempo,  asserting that he  is the brain behind every success the hospitals in the Archdiocese is recording today. 

His words ” I have not seen a man who is so passionate in delivering quality health care services. Most often, our dear Archbishop  goes out of his way to tell people how health care delivery should be promoted not just  in Onitsha Archdiocese but every where he goes.  It  will interest you to note that Catholic dioceses in Nigeria are copying from his accomplishments in quality health care delivery. He is making sure that good hospitals are at beck and  call for anyone in need of medical attention”

 The St Charles Borromeo Specialist hospital he disclosed has procured   additional hermo dialysis machines. ” Initially we are using one  dialysis machines but the sudden astronomical increase in the number of people suffering from kidney related problems made us to procure additional machines. We are still investigating the remote causes of sudden rise of that cases.

 The new dialysis machines are procured  order to ensure that  every patient with such case is attended to at arrival.  Here, we have opthalmologist, optician. Recently we  procured state of arts eye equipment from US valued at 40,000 US Dollars. In the coming week, we will activate it and make it functional. Those travelling to Lagos, Abuja or even overseas in search of good opthalmologist will begin to consult us. 

“In monthly, weekly and yearly basis, we does  eye surgery and we are  gettting 99.5% success in each  of the surgery.  Apart from surgery department, we have optometrist who is taking care of patients that needed conservative care. We have also procured a ventilator for our intensive care unit. Very soon, we will be welcoming medical laboratory scientists for accreditation and if we come out successful after the accreditation,  where ever result of the test we conducted is sent to,  it will be accepted. Even now, when our result is sent to foreign nations, no differences will emerge after confirmation test. We give kudos to our doctors who are putting in their best  to ensure and sustain  quality health care delivery. Gastrol intestinal complication  patients will begin to  access our endoscopy that would be reactivated very soon.

” From what we are experiencing in this hospital, there is need for people to be educated health wise. So many people are ignorant of the need to take proper care of their health. The need for a routine test  is sacrosanct. It recommended that people between the ages of 40, 50 and above should visit good hospital for at least once in six months,  but if the person is not buoyant enough, he or she should consult a hospital a least once a year for a routine check.

 “We have also noticed sharp rise in cases of diabetes, kidney related problems, liver issues, cholesterols and so on. If these cases are  detected early enough,  the patient will not only save money but life. Many have died carelessly because they have refused to approach a good hospital for a routine check. Some believed that some of these sicknesses  mentioned here cannot be treated or controlled but that notion doesn’t hold water, because any case diagnosed early can be handled perfectly. Those going to herbalists are also endangering their lives, because herbalists cannot provide their medical history in order to know the kind of treatment that should be administered. For example, if someone is down with stroke, herbalist cannot detect the kind of stroke disturbing the person since there are two kinds of strokes”, he stated.
