In a show of political force, Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) and former governor of Imo State, has given Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State a clear signal to begin preparations for his departure from the Government House in anticipation of the upcoming November 11, 2023 governorship election in the state.
Obi’s proclamation was made during the commencement of the Imo State governorship campaign for the LP Candidate, Senator Athan Achonu, held in Owerri. The LP candidate’s campaign kickoff was underscored by Obi’s assertion that the election of the LP in Imo would spell the end of misgovernance in the state.
Brushing aside reported leadership conflicts within the party and the issue of multiple candidates, Obi expressed, “Abure is the national chairman of our party. We don’t have another chairman. LP will win Imo State. Athan Achonu is the only candidate of the party and he is the best in Imo State. I am pleased nobody has altered the process. I believe in process.”
Obi’s speech articulated the party’s determination to bring about significant change, not only within Imo but also across Nigeria. He stressed the importance of trustworthy leadership, emphasizing, “We want Nigeria to have leaders that will do what they preach. We know what it takes to change Nigeria. That is why we are here.”
Backing the LP candidate, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, declared, “Senator Athan Achonu is the only governorship candidate of the party. I was the chairman of the panel that conducted the primary election, which produced him as the winner of the election. I am here to bear testimony that he is our candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.”
Senator Athan Achonu, echoing the sentiment of change, pledged to address pressing issues if elected. He outlined a comprehensive plan that includes conducting Local Government elections, infrastructure development, improving electricity supply, and ensuring prompt payments to civil servants and pensioners. He stressed his commitment to ending insecurity and fostering a peaceful environment, asserting, “Starting from day one when I become governor, there won’t be bloodshed in Imo State again.”
The Imo political landscape is buzzing with anticipation as the LP stakes its claim, signaling a decisive shift towards transformative governance. With voices of change echoing, the citizens of Imo stand at the crossroads of decision, tasked with the responsibility of shaping the future they envision for their state.
