Anambra law graduate Miss Onyinye Omenugha last week bagged Princess Diana’s prestigious award over a charity organization named Lawsanaid she founded.
Miss Omenugha the daughter of Dr. Cosmas Omenugha, a medical practitioner and Prof Kate Omenugha, the immediate past Anambra Commissioner for Basic Education founded Lawsanaid an organization that provides an enabling platform and access to a better and quality education for law and aspiring law students with disabilities in Africa.
Trinitas learnt that the work she does at Lawsanaid attracted the attention of Princess Diana’s foundation that recently appreciated and rewarded her with a prestigious award.
While presenting the award, the foundation noted that Onyinye founded ‘Lawsanaid’ to provide inclusive and quality education for law and aspiring law students with disabilities in Africa.
“She advocates for equitable education and has organized various projects and programmes for law students, including those with disabilities, and has created opportunities for students to participate in seminars, training, and competitions. Onyinye’s work has inspired others, and she has become a role model for young people in the legal industry. She is also involved in mentoring, creativity promotion, and advocating for youth-led initiatives,” the foundation remarked.
Miss Onyinye who spoke to Trinitas said her vision stems from her personal experience with a relative who had a learning disability. “Today, I received the Diana Award, which is the most prestigious award a young person can receive for social impact and humanitarian efforts across the world. I am very honored to have received such a prestigious award. Just like Princess Diana believed, I believe that young people have the power to change the world. Hence, the recognition will not just give the work I do more credibility, but it will also enable me to connect with other young people across the globe and keep making more impact”
The award was established in memory of Princess Diana, the Princess of Wales, and given out by the Charity of the same name and has the support of both her sons – HRH the Prince of Wales, and the Duke of Sussex.
The foundation rewarded 180 people across the globe for their works and organizations that are currently transforming lives and making the world a better place.
