The Chaplain of St Luke Chaplaincy, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Rev. Fr. James Akema has charged his parishioners to take good care of every creature of God. He gave the charge during the Mass for the Care of Creation, which he celebrated at the chaplaincy on Sunday, 6th September, 2026, thanking God for the gift of creation, including the environment.
The priest extended the Church’s invitation to them to look round the world, not merely as something they possess, but as God’s gift which He has entrusted to their care. “This has an important consequence for all Christians. We cannot truly love Christ while we deliberately destroy what God has created. We cannot truly love God, while we do not take care of creation –what God has provided for us.”
During the Mass, the Chaplain inaugurated newly elected leaders of Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS), of the chaplaincy, who he thanked for accepting to serve in such capacities. He also reminded them of the implications of their offices and that people look up to them as role models.
“God has called you and given you this responsibility to work for the growth of the Church and for the sanctification of your own soul. You are supposed to be the light house for all other members of FECAMDS. Direct them by your actions – good examples. Looking up to you also means that you have to be serious with your studies. So, do your best.”
Among the nineteen inaugurated executives of federation and their offices are: Cosmas Ezeugwu Ugochukwu (President); Sandra Philip Baki (Vice President); Simon Obute (Secretary); Barnabas Ogwuche (Ass. Gen. Sec.); Dorcas Ogenyi (Treasurer); Jennifer Abraham (Financial Secretary); and Martha Oche (Fellowship Secretary 1).
