The commercial city of Onitsha was literally in festive mood as the Governor of Anambra State on Thursday October 30,2025,commissioned an ultra modern hospitality institution,the Vegas Astoria Hotel and Suites located at Ridge Road,opposite Onitsha Stock Exchange.
The hotel built by two brothers Chiefs Anthony and Chimezie Maduka from Alor town,Anambra State,has all amenities of a modern hotel hospitality institution with over one hundred first class suites nearly relegating others to the background thus arguiably ranking first in the state.
Gov Soludo said erection of the hotel was a testimony of his administrations deliberate efforts to attract investment to the state in line with his administration’s deliberate efforts to attract investors to the state and also the Akulue Uno policy.
Impressed by the huge project,the Governor through the local Govt chairman,renamed the Ridge Road GRA Onitsha,to Vegas Astoria Boulevard Onitsha and also waived one year tax for the hotel for employing dozens of youths.
At the commissioning, dignitaries including the mother of the proprietors Mrs Angelina Maduka were present.





Anambra commissioners Hons Don Onyenji and Hon Evarist Uba including the member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency Hon Mimi Ikpeazu graced the occasion.
Also the former Chairman of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria South East,Sir Azubike Okafor was present.
Earlier while blessing the multi-million Naira edifice during the week,the Archbishop of Onitsha Most Rev Valerian Okeke,prayed that the purpose for which it was built be realized and for God to make the business a resounding success.
He prayed that the hotel serves as a home away from home by customers and be used to glorify the name of God.
The Archbishop commended the owners of the hotel for creating employment for the youths and urged them to make it a place of love and hospitality.
He commended the management for dedicating the complex to God before the official opening adding that,”Unless God builds the house,the builders are building in vain”.
Directors of the hotel,Chiefs Anthony and Chimezie Maduka thanked the Archbishop and priests who came for the blessing and expressed their gratitude to God for making it a success.
They said the idea of building the hotel in no other place than the heart of Onitsha city was in line with the “Think-Home”policy of Anambra State Government inorder to channel growth to the local community,create revenue for the state and provide employment for the youths.In terms of security,the directors said they provided top notch security personnel and modern CCTV cameras inside and outside the complex.
