Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese and Proprietor of Loretto Special Science School, Adazi-Nnukwu, recently celebrated the remarkable accomplishments of the school’s students during his pastoral visit on Sunday, 8th December 2024. In an atmosphere filled with joy and excitement, Bishop Ezeokafor expressed his pride and support for the students, particularly for those who excelled in the Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN) Competition.
Three of Loretto’s brightest stars—Antoinette Onyekelie, Prisca Ezeugwu, and Jacinta Udeze—achieved outstanding positions in the competition, securing first, second, and fifth places, respectively. Their success has earned the school the honour of representing Nigeria in the upcoming international level of the MAN competition in Jakarta, Indonesia, later this year.
Speaking during the Holy Mass that marked the occasion, Bishop Ezeokafor praised the students for their academic excellence and encouraged them to continue their pursuit of knowledge with dedication and discipline. He stressed that the goal of Loretto Special Science School is not just to produce students who are academically proficient but also morally sound. “Our aim is to ensure that our students are both morally and academically excellent. If you combine the two, you will become someone who can make a real difference in the world,” the Bishop told the students.
The event also featured a variety of activities, including the investiture of new students, the inauguration of the 2024/2025 academic year, and the commissioning of vital infrastructure projects such as a new water supply and solar power systems. In a special moment, Bishop Ezeokafor administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to several deserving students, further highlighting the spiritual and academic growth of the school community.
Rev. Fr. Felix Nwosu, the school’s Manager, took the opportunity to thank Bishop Ezeokafor for his unwavering support and love for the school, describing him as an education-friendly Bishop who constantly strives to improve the learning environment for the students.
As the Proprietor of the school, Bishop Ezeokafor remains committed to fostering an environment where students can excel academically and morally. His leadership continues to inspire both students and staff alike, and his recent visit further emphasized the importance of education, discipline, and character development in shaping the future of the students.
The celebration was attended by numerous priests, government officials, and guests, all of whom recognized the significant strides Loretto Special Science School is making in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
