It was another moment of joy for Nigerians on Saturday, April 19, 2025, as a group of Igbo medical doctors in diaspora performed a groundbreaking ceremony for the erection of a world-class hospital named Pinnacle Consultant Hospital and Clinic Limited at Ojoto, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State.

Speaking at the event, the President of Pinnacle Hospital, Prof. Ndubueze Fidelis Okonkwo, disclosed that their mission is to change the narrative in Nigeria’s health sector. He remarked that the government and private sector do not provide adequate and affordable healthcare to the people, positing that overall healthcare delivery in Nigeria is substandard despite the efforts of brilliant and intelligent Nigerian-based physicians.

“We plan to deliver and advocate for the development of innovative wellness solutions that will improve the lives of individuals and communities,” he said. “Our people with wealth often go abroad to seek medical care. Hopefully, with the establishment of Pinnacle Consultant Hospital, we will make medical tourism a thing of the past for Nigerians.”

The President further revealed that the hospital plans to introduce world-class transplant medicine, particularly kidney and pancreas transplant, in the near future, while adding others with time. “Our cancer treatment center is expected to open soon,” he added. “We are here as agents of change to leave a legacy for future generations, and we welcome anyone who is willing to partner with us to achieve this goal.”

Prof. Okonkwo appreciated Chief Sir Louis Onwugbenu, Chairman of Louis Carter Group, for supporting the project. He also commended the traditional ruler of Ojoto town, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu, and Chief Sylvester Okonkwo for assisting the group in securing the land.

The Anambra State Governor, His Excellency Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, who was represented by the Health Commissioner, Dr. Afam Obidike, commended the group of doctors for their concern about the health of their people, describing it as a huge gesture. He disclosed his government’s readiness to support the project, describing it as a welcome development.

Also, the Chairman of Anambra Traditional Rulers Council cum Obosi Monarch, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III, and Igwe Gerald Obunadike Mbamalu of Ojoto, in their separate remarks, poured encomiums on the 12 doctors for their “think home” philosophy. They posited that, outside the quality healthcare the hospital will provide, it will develop Ojoto community and neighboring communities.

The 12 Pinnacle Consultants are Dr. Achonu Geoffrey (Amaigbo, Imo State), Dr. Agbim Gabriel Elozonachukwu (Ojoto, Anambra State) , Dr. Iriele Clifford I. (Awo-Idemili, Imo State), Dr. Mbachu Raphael Madububa (Mbaise, Imo State), Dr. Nnaji Felix Chukwudi (Ihiala, Anambra State), Dr. Obilo Iwuozor L. (Mbano, Imo State ) Dr. Ogbuchi Samson N. (Amichi, Anambra State), Dr. Okonkwo Ambrose S. (Ojoto, Anambra State).

Others are Prof. Okonkwo Fidelis Ndubueze (Nnewi, Anambra State), Dr. Sir Onyeka Wilson Oguejiofor (Nnewi, Anambra State), Dr. Uchendu Chukwudi B. (Nnewi, Anambra State) and Dr. Ugokwe Charles (Ojoto, Anambra State).

The Medical Consultants, in separate interviews with newsmen, stated that they came together as a group to give back to society, emphasizing that a nation without a good health sector cannot grow. They made it clear that their desire is to give equal opportunity to both rich and poor to have access to quality healthcare
