The manager St Kizito’s Secondary School Umudioka Rev Fr Damian Chinedu Ojukwu on Tuesday asserted that our immediate society is already reaping the dividends of Archbishop Val Okeke’s ( the Archbishop of Onitsha and the metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical province) investment in human development.
Fr Ojukwu who made the assertion during his chat with Trinitas Newspaper correspondent stated so many priests Archbishop Okeke trained overseas are now back and have since started injecting the quality and stuff they are made of into the education system, explaining that today schools being managed by the Archdiocese are doing extremely well, winning national and international competitions, laurels and at the same time attracting fame and making Anambra state and Nigeria proud so many times.
He posited that the products Onitsha Archdiocesan schools are producing in terms of quality and sound secondary graduates who can compete favourably with their counterpart in any part of the world, is sign of positive results emanating from Archbishop’s giant strides in education sector.
His words,” Archbishop Okeke is a lover of human development. He has passion for the development of human person. On this note, it is good to state that his over twenty years espiscopacy has been punctuated with a lot of achievements.”
” Immediately after government handed over schools to the mission which the Archbishop himself facilitated, he swung into action, and starting rebuilding the entire dilapidated schools handed over to Onitsha Archdiocese. Today our transformed mission schools are testimonies of Archbishops investment in education and these schools are upholding the culture of excellence the Archdiocese is known for. St kizito Secondary Umudioka is part of beneficiaries of the Archbishop’s investment in education . When you come here, you will experience the aura of academic excellence. All these are testament of good did and interest to drive the process for giving quality education to our children.”
Fr Ojukwu stated that Archbishop always believes we can get it better. “He doesn’t believe in stopping at the average . He rather believed that sky is our just the beginning; that a child brought up educationally in Onitsha Archdiocesan schools can compete with the rest of his or her counterpart and that explains the quality of education we are bequeathing in our children. He has also extended this drive to tertiary institution by gifting the Archdiocese of Onitsha Shanahan University. Before now, Onitsha is known as a town that is harbouring the largest market in West African. In order words , Onitsha is known for only trading, but our dynamic Archbishop has changed the narrative by establishing the university, thereby giving the city a new lift. The world no longer associate Onitsha city with only business, but with Intellectuals. Very soon, the university will produce technicians who will industrialized the city. In essence, we are appreciating the Archbishop for his continual investment in human development . He will clock 71 this year, but he is still eager to do more.”
The manager further posited that our immediate society would have been in more chaotic situation if not for the impact of our Archbishop. He revealed that most parents do not give much time to their wards because of hustling , giving much time to their businesses and jobs to the detriment of proper training of their children and they will end up dumping their wards into mission schools for holistic training and we are equal to the task because of the quality training we received through the assistant of the Archbishop. He trained us the priests in various universities in the world Just to do this youth formation job. Our Archdiocesan schools could be simply described as formation colleges where students receive holistic training embedded in culture of excellence. Parents who enrols their children in Onitsha Archdiocesan schools are the lucky ones because their wards would be drilled both in academics and morals and will come out better persons.”
