The Onitsha indigenous Catholics Association,Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Parish,Onitsha have hailed the Archbishop of Onitsha,Most Rev Valerian Okeke for preserving and improving on the heritage of early missionaries who stepped into Southern Nigeria through Onitsha,on the present site of the Basilica.
A patron and trustee of the association,Sir Barrister Chris Anyaegbunam made the commendation while addressing the members during a reception after their end of year thanksgiving and other activities.
According to Barrister Anyaegbunam,the small number of the indigenous Catholics now worshipping in the Basilica represent a large number of the members at home and in diaspora and are pleased with the Archbishop’s achievements and strong identification with the Onitsha indigenous Catholics in addition to his monumental achievements across the Archdiocese and beyond.
Barr Anyaegbunam cited the new Shanahan University,Onitsha as an indelible milestone which the Archbishop would be remembered for in a life time.
Others who took turn to eulogize the Archbishop include the chairman of the association,Sir Azubike Odunze,Catholic Journalist and News Editor Trinitas Newspaper,Sir Victor Ononye and the spokesperson,Lady Mabel Ekwerekwu.
Highlight on the ocassion include presentation of gifts to members and cultural dances.
