The new Divisional Police Officer(DPO) in charge of Central Police Station (CPS) Onitsha,CSP Garba,has rolled out new strategy for effective policing and security in his area of control.
Speaking in a City Radio programme,”Citizens and Crime”,the the Divisional Police Officer said he will carry all stakeholders along and consult widely to make the area crime free.
The DPO,Mr Garba,who was recently transferred from Fegge Police Division to Onitsha Central,was popular for his effective crime control and good public relations strategy which attracted goodwill and various awards of excellence to him and the police in general,from various stakeholders.
While speaking on his crime prevention strategy,CSP Garba said he will call a meeting of various groups which comprise community leaders,church leaders,market leaders,youth and other groups,on the need to work together and seek their cooperation to minimise crime.
He disclosed that their has been an upsurge in Cyber crimes and abuse the social media which his office will intensify operations as mandated by the police high command.
He warned youths to desist from misuse of their phones and the police has been mandated to look out for those who use their phones to commit all acts of crime,adding that the police is empowered by law to apprehend suspects.
On issues surrounding rejection of gunshot and accident victims,the DPO said a new directive from the Inspector General of Police has advised hospitals and members of the police force not to reject the victims but to give them maximum attention and treatment as those who fail to do so risk sanctioning.
He called for cooperation among members of the public in the onerous task of ridding the community of crime.
