The Vice Rector of St Joseph Minor Seminary, Rev Fr. Benedict Tachio Nkom has cautioned against eating without control even he as charged parents to raise disciplined children.
Giving this task at the Mass he celebrated in the school chapel on Saturday, 13th April, 2024, he hinged on the day’s first reading on the problem emanating from distribution on food in disclosing some dangers and problems from uncontrollable quest for food.“If you do not conquer food,” He said. “Food will disgrace you on many occasions. If you do not conquer food, it will make you look foolish before people who respect you.
The problem in the early church was simply the problem of the distribution of food. Some felt left out. Dear friends in Christ, if the apostles had not checked this problem of food immediately, it would have given rise to greater problems.
The Hebrew women would have pulled out of the Church and start their own church – because of food.Parents, train your children to overcome food. If you do not train them to overcome food, it can be one of the evil ways in which they can be manipulated.
Children have been initiated through food. Food has been used to kill people. Families have separated because of food. I have seen where some children feel that their parents do not love them because the first son got meat and rice and the second son did not get meat but only given rice. So be wary about food because, food can be used to initiate you.”Fr Nkom told them to teach their children that life is better than food.
He also called on adults who are still struggling with problems of food to work on overcoming it. “Food is something small but it can have a larger implication.” He summed.
