The Archdiocese of Onitsha last Saturday honoured the Blessed Virgin Mary as it celebrated it’s yearly event named,”A Day With Mary”.
It was a day set aside to accord special honour to the Blessed Virgin Mary,Mother of Christ.
Various Marian Societies besieged the Basilica Square,Onitsha where a huge statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary stood on the middle of the square while Marian devotees venerated the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Most Rev Valerian Okeke presided over the Mass.He was represented by the Rector of the Basilica,Monsignor Francis Nwokedi Ezumezu who was also the chief celebrant.
Delivering a homily titled,”A day with Mary is a day with Jesus and a day with Jesus is a day with Mary”,Rev Fr Charles Ohaka prayed that all who assembled to generate and give honour to Mary were privileged and would go home with abundant blessings which would impact on their families and neighbors at home.
According to him,every honour to Mary is honour to Jesus and every honour to Jesus is also honour to Mary.
He described Blessed Virgin Mary as a woman of faith who lived her life in obedience and never in unbelief.
Fr Ohaka admonished christians to expect turbulence in their lives when they come and not to lose hope by holding steadfastly to their faith until God says something.
He told christians to carry Virgin Mary as the Ark of Covenant of God through which God spoke to His children and believers.
Earlier before the Mass,Rector of the Basilica,Monsignor Francis Ezumezu welcomed all the delegates of the Marian Societies,priests,Religious and lay faithful for turning out in their numbers for the event.
