Former Anambra State Governor Mr Peter Obi would need to pay N60 million to contest the 2027 presidential election if he runs on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The figure follows the release of the party’s timetable and fee structure for the 2027 general elections.
Report say,the combined cost of the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the presidency is set at N60 million.
In a statement issued Tuesday, NDC National Chairman Sen. Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe and Secretary Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu said the sale of forms began on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Presidential aspirants must pay N20 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N40 million for the Nomination Form.
The party said screening of presidential aspirants will hold at its national headquarters in Abuja from May 19 to May 21, 2026. The presidential primary is scheduled for May 29, 2026, in the Federal Capital Territory.
If Obi, a major opposition contender in the 2023 election, decides to run under the NDC, he would have to meet the party’s financial and procedural requirements for the presidential ticket.
The NDC said its fees are among the lowest compared to other parties. It is offering 50% and 25% concessions for female aspirants and persons living with disabilities, respectively.
The party also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and internal democracy, announcing an “open secret ballot” system for its primaries.
With the primary set for May 29, 2026, attention is shifting to how prominent political figures will respond to the NDC’s nomination structure ahead of 2027.
