Christian and potential Christian parents have been charged to transmit their Christian to their children and grandchildren. Giving the task during the Mass he celebrated in Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the Parish Priest of St Ann Zango Tama, Rev Fr. Patrick Atama hinged his homily on the day’s first reading (Deut. 4:1, 5-9), on keeping the commandments of God, imploring them to teach their children what they believe in, so that they will not grow without that essential aspect of their lives.
The clergyman also encouraged them to live a life of contagious faith, so that people who come in connect with them, may be so positively influenced by their conduct, as to glorify the God they believe in. He lamented that some parents pay more attention to the western education of their children, turning blind eye to the one upon which their spiritual lives ought to be built.
“Do not allow your faith to die with you.” He admonished. “The best gift you can give to your children is the gift of faith, not money, not houses, not possession. Give them the gift of faith. If you store money for them, without the faith and the fear of God in them, the money may not do them any good. Teach them the fear of God and they will know how to relate well with their brothers and sister. Your faith is not for you alone.”
“Many families. Many parents suffer today, because they neglected that aspect from the beginning of their journey. Today, many Christian parents focus more on circular education than religious and moral education. Many a times, some parents come to the Church while their children are sleeping at home. Sometimes they pray in the morning and their children are sleeping. So, how do you instill the faith in them?”
