The Vatican has expressed deep concern over the growing tensions involving Iran, warning that continued military escalation could trigger wider instability and undermine international peace efforts.
Speaking on the situation, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, cautioned that the increasing reliance on military strikes and retaliatory actions risks setting a dangerous precedent in global relations. He warned that the growing acceptance of what is often described as “preventive war” could weaken the foundations of international law and encourage further conflicts around the world.
According to the Vatican’s chief diplomat, the international community must be careful not to allow the “law of force” to replace the “force of law.” He noted that justifying preemptive attacks could open the door to numerous conflicts, making global security even more fragile.
Cardinal Parolin stressed that the situation demands careful diplomacy and renewed commitment to dialogue rather than military confrontation. He emphasized that peace can only be secured through negotiations, respect for international law, and a collective effort to prevent violence from escalating further.
