Parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria have been told that baptism is not enough to enter heaven. The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Dr. Tijjani Ezekiel Danlami who told them so, during a Holy Mass he celebrated in the parish, on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, Sunday, January 11, 2026, charged them to work out their salvation with fear and trembling, so that they may be admitted into heaven.
He taught that Jesus, being God, did not need to be baptized, since He did not partake in the original sin, but presented Himself for baptism, even when John the Baptist objected initially, so that He might among other reasons, fulfill all righteousness; cleanse the waters for the baptism of future members of God; and point the importance of the Sacrament to mankind.
“Your baptism must be renewed every day by the life you live, so that people around will see in you, the effects of baptism – the effects of the sanctifying grace of baptism, so that they will see in your life, that Christianity which we witness to, every day. Jesus is there for us, to strengthen us to continue with our journey towards heaven.”
“And so, if you are privileged to be baptized, do not relax because baptism alone may not be sufficient for salvation. We must work out our salvation every day. Do not think that you must enter heaven because you are a Christian or because you are baptized. For you to run a race and win the crown, you must follow the rules of engagement. Listen to Jesus and obey Him.”
Fr. Danlami prayed for the grace that though baptized, they may become witnesses to the Gospel and to Jesus, so that in the end, they may enter into eternity, where they shall be with God forever.
