The Chief Shepherd of the Onitsha Archdiocese, His Grace Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, has charged Christians to avoid being selfish in their prayers and instead pray more for others. The Archbishop made this charge during his pastoral visit to St. Dominic Parish, Iba Pope, Oduke Awada, on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
According to Archbishop Okeke, praying only for oneself is a failure to fulfill one’s Christian responsibility of caring for one another. He emphasized that Christians should prioritize praying for others, caring for their needs, and spreading love everywhere they go.
“If you want God to answer your prayers, pray more for others and care for their needs,” he advised. “Live a good life by being charitable to your neighbors, forgiving your enemies unconditionally, and spreading love everywhere you go.”
The Archbishop encouraged Christians to persevere in good works and prayers, assuring them that God will bless and save them. He also promised that God will use them to perform miracles.
Archbishop Okeke’s message serves as a reminder to Christians of the importance of intercessory prayer and living a life of love and service to others. By prioritizing the needs of others and praying for them, Christians can demonstrate their commitment to their faith and build stronger, more compassionate communities.
