Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo has approved new contracts worth over ₦9.7 billion for infrastructure development and key social reform programmes aimed at improving the state’s physical landscape and restoring societal values.

According to a release issued by the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the approvals followed the 11th Executive Council meeting held on June 16, 2025, at the Light House, Awka. The meeting, chaired by Governor Charles Soludo, focused on road construction, flood and erosion control, school rehabilitation, traffic management, and cultural reawakening.

Among the contracts approved is the sum of ₦3.5 billion for erosion reclamation, flood control, and the construction of a 2.28-kilometre access road linking St. Augustine Community Primary School, Rest Assured Hotel, Community High School Umunze, and the Umuchu By-pass. The project was awarded to Saidi Nigeria Limited. Also approved was ₦2.1 billion for internal roads at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, to be executed by Mid-East Construction Company.

Another major project is the construction of 3.9 kilometres of internal roads at the Uli campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University at a cost of ₦2.65 billion, awarded to Anyi Supreme Industries Ltd.

The Council also approved ₦528.6 million for the completion of the Country Club at the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex, and ₦65.7 million for additional works at the Specialist Hospital, Fegge, Onitsha. Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd was awarded both contracts.

Other infrastructure decisions include ₦97.3 million for the rehabilitation of Nya Ranch Road in Awka, handled by the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA), and ₦55.1 million for the installation of traffic control features such as road signs, rumble strips, and speed bumps by Vadakris Ltd.

In a move to improve safety and professionalism among road users, ANSEC also announced plans to train and retrain drivers across the state. Offenders of major traffic violations will be blacklisted under a new enforcement regime.

Additionally, ₦718.7 million was approved for the reconstruction and renovation of dilapidated buildings at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, to be carried out by three firms—Biggstruct Engineering Ltd, Zonel Projects Ltd, and Euro Energy Resources.

On the social front, the Council gave the nod to the launch of the Anambra Rebirth Programme, a value reorientation initiative rooted in the Igbo proverb “Aka aja aja na-ebute onu mmanụ mmanụ”, which means “Hard work brings reward.” The programme is expected to foster discipline, diligence, and cultural pride, particularly among the youth.

Dr. Mefor emphasised that the decisions underscore Governor Soludo’s strategic vision of building a smart, secure, and productive homeland, where infrastructural renewal is matched with social development and value-based governance.
