As political campaigns officially kick off for the November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State, the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA) has announced a permit fee of ₦50 million for each political party wishing to erect campaign billboards and engage in other outdoor advertising activities.
The announcement was made by the agency’s Managing Director, Tony Ujubuonu, during a press briefing held Wednesday at ANSAA’s headquarters in Awka. He emphasized that the payment is a statutory requirement, payable directly to the state government’s account, and grants candidates the right to deploy various campaign materials including posters, branded vehicles, banners, fliers, T-shirts, caps, public address systems, and more across all 21 local government areas of Anambra.
With at least 16 political parties cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to participate in the election, the permit fees are expected to generate up to ₦800 million in revenue for the state.
Ujubuonu explained that the announcement coincided with the official lifting of the campaign ban by INEC on June 11, 2025. He said the move was aimed at creating orderliness and fairness during the campaign period. “This briefing is both timely and essential for an orderly and lawful campaign season in our dear state,” he said.
He further reminded the public that ANSAA was established by law on September 16, 2010, to regulate outdoor advertising across the state and to issue necessary permits, enforce standards, and collect associated fees.
In a strong appeal to political actors, Ujubuonu cautioned against defacing opponents’ campaign materials and stressed that only advertising professionals registered with the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) are authorized to erect and manage billboard structures in the state. He warned that unapproved materials could be removed and offenders sanctioned.
“The campaign is among brothers,” he said, “and it is to help Ndi Anambra make informed choices, not a do-or-die affair.” He also called on media professionals to support the agency in promoting peaceful and professional campaign practices.
According to Ujubuonu, all political parties and candidates, including the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), have been formally informed of the new guidelines and will be held accountable once implementation begins.
