A UNIZIK student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, expelled for assaulting Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, visited the lecturer with her parents and family to personally apologize.
Precious, accompanied by siblings, well-wishers, and some university staff, expressed remorse for her actions.
Her father stressed the visit was solely to seek forgiveness, not to influence the university’s disciplinary proceedings.
Precious reportedly wept during the apology, while Dr. Okoye comforted her and conveyed his forgiveness.
Despite the apology, UNIZIK’s disciplinary committee upheld the expulsion.
University officials emphasized the importance of setting a precedent for student conduct and maintaining the university’s reputation.
The expulsion, however, was not a rustication, allowing Precious the option of transferring to another institution.
A source, speaking anonymously, noted that a rustication would negatively impact her future university and public service opportunities.
The incident has prompted discussion regarding student discipline, social media’s influence on campus conduct, and the appropriate consequences for disruptive behavior.
